The Family and Relationship Centre

Formally Relate London North East and Essex, we are a community-based centre of excellence. Building on our 80-year heritage, we foster a direct and human connection between highly skilled practitioners and the people we support to nurture relationships of every kind. We don’t judge; we are here for anyone who needs us, at any time in their life. And we raise funds to deliver on our commitment to enable access for everybody regardless of ability to pay. 

Our History

Starting life back in the 1940s as Havering and Barking Counselling Services, we provided couple counselling for the residents of these two boroughs, in time expanding to cover the boroughs of Waltham Forest and Redbridge.

Our name changed to Relate in the late eighties and by that time, our services had expanded to cover Relationship Counselling, Sex Therapy, and Training and Education.

In the late nineties we started providing Children and Young Peoples Counselling and Mediation, and a few years later, Family Counselling as part of the Relate family of charities. We grew to cover 10 North and East London Boroughs, Essex and Thurrock.

In June 2025 we moved away from Relate, to enable us to better serve the specific needs of our communities which are across 16 London boroughs stretching from Haringey in the North, to Greenwhich in the South, and across Essex, Thurrock and Kent. 

We are relationship experts and our amazing practitioners offer relationship support and mediation to individuals, couples, and families of all ages and backgrounds.
